Rahui on Matai Bay

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the rahui that was put on Matai bay. It was a lot of fun watching the videos and writing down the information in them. We were learning to make connections between different things we read  or view to create new learning. I made a presentation of the things I learnt from reading. I think I did well at writing down what the people were saying in the video but in my own words. The thing I could have done better is not to rush as much because I only had 20 minutes to do it. At the start of this type of reading I had no idea what a rahui was, now I have so much information about it. I learnt what rahui means in a way that I never thought I would learn anything before. Overall I still think I did a good job and I can’t wait to learn more about this topic.

Metaphor poems

In Te Ngahere we have been writing metaphors about ourselves. It started with everyone on a padlet and writing down metaphors about Te Ngahere, then we got onto a google doc and started writing about ourselves in metaphors, so it was a poem. The thing we were learning about was to use language features to help paint a picture in the reader’s mind. I think I did well at making the metaphors interesting. I think I could have done better at making the metaphors a bit more like me.  Hope you like my poem! :)

All About Camp

On the 27th of November Te Moana and Te Maunga  headed off to Coopers Beach. We were all packed and ready to go. We all got ready in our dorms then started doing the activities. The first activity I did was going on the water slide. The water slide was 80 meters long and it was the biggest in Northland. The first time I went down it was super fun. My legs were jelly when I was walking back up the hill.

The next thing we went on was slippery hockey. We grabbed a hockey stick ( it was plastic ) and started playing. The first and second time I slipped over I whacked my head on the ground. We had a sponge war and if someone threw a sponge at you you would be out for 10 seconds but if you catch it, the person who threw it at you, is out for 10 seconds.

The next thing was the confidence course, and then it was kayaking. They were both really fun. My favourite activity was the confidence course.

Just a really big thank you to all the parents and teachers who were there. We couldn’t have done it without you guys :)

Movie Making Story!

In Te Maunga we have been learning all of the different kind of camera shots. Did you know we have also been learning about the different angles as well!  I made a movie with Isaiah S and Vinnie. We made a movie about Superman! Here is my movie and my writing for it!

I laid down on top of the fluffy ground, dreaming about flying. Dreaming about singing ‘ I beilive I can fly,’ as soon as I woke up, I was flying. I felt like superman. My fist felt like the only thing holding me up. I heard the song ‘ I believe I can fly, I believe I can touch the sky!’ My stomach had butterflies swarming all in it. Two children looked at me as though I was a psycho or something! I guess that would have been the normal reaction from people, you know, to see someone randomly flying on top of the air!

Waka Ama

In Te Maunga we have been going to waka ama every Tuesday. Our WALT was write a quality recount. I think I did well with making my paragraphs a good size. I think I could have done better by adding descriptive words in to make it sound better. We have made stories about our experience. Here is my story:

Waka Ama

I rushed to the car door. Waka ama has finally come to us. It was a Tuesday morning on October 31st. Te Maunga rushed to Waitangi to do waka ama.

I quickly zoomed into the car and clicked my seat belt. I was shaking. I just wanted to go go go! As we started driving I could see Waigtangi from the distance. I could hear motors rumbling and Tayla laughing beside me because Rikesh told a funny joke. I guess I laughed a little too.

When we got to the beach, Rob ( The waka ama teacher ) started babbling to us about putting on life jackets. How to put them on, how to get a life jacket on from another person and how to tighten them. He also talked to us about how to use  the hoe (paddle). We had to secure our hand at the very top of the handle and our other hand close to the fat bit of the hoe, otherwise known as the head.

It was soon my turn to go in the waka. My stomach felt super light. I felt like my head was floating in the air. My hands were shaking, but it wasn’t because I was cold! I slowly tumbled inside the waka. We started paddling really fast then we nearly hit the bridge! We turned around so we didn’t hit it. We had to work extra hard because we were about to hit the beach as well! My arms were getting weak, they felt like warm jelly. They also felt like they could collapse because they were super tired. I could hear waves crashing on the beach.  Everyone on the boat was huffing and puffing.

It is so much fun at waka ama. Next time I will try to be named paddler of the week, but it isn’t always about winning and having fun. Isn’t it?

Life Ed!

Every two years Paihia School gets to go to a caravan and get s to talk to a puppet and learn about something. This year we were learning about relationships. You may be thinking we  shouldn't be learning about boyfriends and girlfriends, but we were actually learning about friendship relationships. Let's stop talking about the non juicy part, let's talk about the puppet! The puppet's name is Harold, so is the caravan. Harold is a giraffe that doesn't necessarily talk but does whisper in Terri's ( The owner of Harold )  ears because she isn't a ventriloquist so she can't speak with Harold's lips movie while Terri's lip's were movie or else that would look very weird!

End Of Term Reflection

In Te Maunga is is nearly the end of term 3 and we have been writing end of term reflections. We had a document with some questions on it and we had to choose four of those questions to write the answers of them. I am just going to show you a picture of all the questions on the google doc:

Overall my term was… because:

My term was challenging because everything was at a higher level than my actual level so that made things hard. Also if I paired with anyone, they would expect me to tell them what to do and sometimes I don’t know what to do and that affects our whole pair.

What I am particularly grateful for:

I am grateful for all the friends that help me and are so kind to me, I am grateful for the amazing effort that all the teachers give to us kids and I am grateful to have such a great, environmental school.

What was the most challenging part of the term for you? Why?

The most challenging part of the term for me was when everyone relies on me to do everything for them because it is challenging to do so much work on my own with no one to help me.

What is something you accomplished this term that you are proud of?

I accomplished my reading goal which was to ask questions as I read. It was very important to me to accomplished that so I could have moved up a level and have a harder, more challenging goal. I was so proud when I was evidencing it and I was ready for a new goal!
