Bees Wax Wraps

Hello everyone! This week in Te Ngahere we have been making beeswax wraps.

We had been given a piece of fabric to draw on.

We were drawing on them because they were a bit plain so we wanted to spice it up a bit,
and make it seem more like our beeswax wraps.

We made the beeswax wraps because normally we would have plastic or glad wrap as a
cover for our food in our lunch, but now we can cover our food with our beeswax wrap.

I think I did well at drawing the patterns that wanted them to be, mostly because I know
I am not the best at drawing.

I think I could have done better at holding the wrap still when we were drying it.

Technology

Kia ora everyone. In Te Ngahere we have been doing technology.

We take pallets, then turn them into random things we could possibly attempt to sell,

to make a little bit of cash.

I was in a group with Mihi and Anyah.

We were hoping to make a shelf. Obviously we had to make a plan,
so we made a google drawing to explain what we are doing, and all the steps we need to
take to complete our shelf.

I think I did well at explaining what we needed to do.

I think I could have done better at measuring the wood in half faster!

Dress Up Day

This week in Te Ngahere the whole school has been dressing up as whatever we wanted to fund raise for
Kids Can.
We would also donate gold coins because we want to give money back to Kids Can.
If you didn’t already know what Kids Can is,
it is a super helpful group of people that give schools food, clothes and much more.
I dressed up as a demon with my friend Tayla. Today was so much fun!
A big thank you to Kids Can for donating so much stuff to us, it means so much!

Ukulele

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to play the ukulele. We have a ukulele instructor helping us with this. Her name was Alison. This event takes place every Wednesday. Each class gets to go out to the whare and have 40 minutes to learn how to play. I had a very slight advantage because I know how to play guitar, So I kind of have the feel of it.  There were at least 15 ukuleles on the ground, waiting for us to play them. I got the purple ukulele, not that it matters. Overall, it was super fun. We learnt how to move our fingers to different frets and strings. I think I did well with changing my fingers. I think I could have done better with my timing.

                                                          

Food chains

In Te Ngahere we had to make an animation about any food chain we knew about. We managed to put ourselves into groups. I paired up with Payton. I really enjoyed doing the screencastify and seeing how the animation looked like without touching the chromebook. I think I did well at using the correct animals in the food chain from research. I could have done better at explaining more about how the food chain works.

Endemic or Native?

Previously in Te Ngahere we have been learning about endemic and native animals.

We made presentations to share our learning with others.
Isaiah M,  AJ and I  decided to go with the silvereye.
Instead of everyone being bored with all the information we had given, we created a song.
I really enjoyed making the song because it gave me a bit more confidence
to do other things with my voice.
I think I did well at putting important information in.
What I think I could have done better at is not putting too many photos in.
Overall it was a lot of fun working with Isaiah and AJ. Here is our presentation:

Bay Bush Action Visit

In Te Ngahere we had visitors come into our class.

There names were Brad and Stella from Bay Bush Action.

They came to talk to us about saving our native and  endemic birds.

They came with stuffed animals such as possums, a hedgehog, a ferret and a kiwi.

They came with 10 traps.

Our plan is to make our school the first school ever in NZ to be pest free.

I enjoyed seeing the possum because it looked so aggressive.
