Bay Bush Action Visit

In Te Ngahere we had visitors come into our class.
There names were Brad and Stella from Bay Bush Action.
They came to talk to us about saving our native and  endemic birds.
They came with stuffed animals such as possums, a hedgehog, a ferret and a kiwi.
They came with 10 traps.
Our plan is to make our school the first school ever in NZ to be pest free.
I enjoyed seeing the possum because it looked so aggressive.
Thank you Brad and Stella for coming to our school.

Thank you Whaea Chrissy and Whaea Becks for arranging Brad and Stella to come to our class!

Here are some photos of us having so much fun!

A Moment In Time

In Te Ngahere we have been learning to do descriptive writing.
We had to put descriptive words into it.
We also had to describe a picture.
I think my writing was surprisingly good.
This writing was the best writing I think I have ever done.
I think I was good at putting descriptive words in.
I really enjoyed everything about the writing. I think I could have done better at writing a bit more because I only did 3 paragraphs.
Here is my writing:

A MOMENT IN TIME
Walking through the deep dark woods, plants dangling from above, branches flowing like the wind, trees, swaying about like dancing squirrels. The light blue sky, darkening as each step is taken, engaging the light. Pine cones falling in the distance, so far away, but still so near. Leaves as big as a giant! Mountains, with gushing trees, dancing around.

Clouds, appearing out of nowhere. Spiders climbing there way up to the tippy top of the pointy tree. Moss, as furry as a pom pom. The light booming towards the dirt, soon to be bursting out with beautiful flowers.  Camouflaged lizards, eating all insects appeared in sight.

Clouds, slowly fading away every single split second. Small trees, barely visible and slowly growing, soon to be a gigantic kauri tree. Nothing to be seen but green bushes and trees, as still as a snake, as if it was staring at its prey.  Ferns, hanging over the dry dirt floors of the wonderful earth.

Explanation Writing

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about healthy ecosystems.
It took a while to write it, but eventually time past and it was done.
I think I did well at getting the structure in the writing correct.
I really enjoyed writing the conclusion.
I think I could have done better at responding to my feedback.

Here is my writing:

Healthy Ecosystems

A healthy ecosystem is made up of living, and nonliving things.
The living and nonliving things are specifically decomposers, producers consumers,
organic matters and inorganic matter.

What are decomposers?

Decomposers are non living things that use gases and
chemicals to break down things like bacteria and even fungi!
So basically decomposers break down dead matter.

What are consumers?

Consumers are living things that eat other living things.
Here is an example, the bluebird eats an insect,
but the snake eats the bluebird so the snake and the bluebird are both consumers.

What are producers?

Producers are plants that make their own energy.
To do this they use sun, water and nutrients to grow.
When the consumers eat the producers, they get the energy the producers had created.

Ecosystems are fragile, they can very easily get unbalanced.
There are plenty of healthy ecosystems but, there are also unbalanced ones.
If one thing goes wrong in the ecosystem, everything gets put off.

Pepeha

In Te Ngahere we have been learning our  pepeha. A pepeha is saying who you are and where you are from
in maori. We made a powtoon or a google slide of our pepeha as well, So that made it visual..
In our pepeha we have things like our maunga, which is our mountain and we also have things like our
mama or papa which is our mum and dad.  Overall it was a lot of fun learning my pepeha, and I think I did
a pretty good job at pronouncing my pepeha but the thing I could have done better was have it displayed
better and what I mean by that is I could have had better pictures and backgrounds. Overall I think I did a
pretty good job and I can’t wait to see what other things we get into with our pepeha.

Rahui on Matai Bay

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the rahui that was put on Matai bay. It was a lot of fun watching the videos and writing down the information in them. We were learning to make connections between different things we read  or view to create new learning. I made a presentation of the things I learnt from reading. I think I did well at writing down what the people were saying in the video but in my own words. The thing I could have done better is not to rush as much because I only had 20 minutes to do it. At the start of this type of reading I had no idea what a rahui was, now I have so much information about it. I learnt what rahui means in a way that I never thought I would learn anything before. Overall I still think I did a good job and I can’t wait to learn more about this topic.
